The Nest Thermostat learns your schedule to programme itself, notices when you’re gone and automatically turns down the heat, and can be controlled from your mobile. You’ll see how much heat you use every day and get an Energy Report every month to track and manage your energy use. The Nest Thermostat even learns how long your home takes to heat up so you only use as much heat as you actually need.

Do I Need Wi-Fi to Use Nest?

The Nest Learning Thermostat doesn't require a Wi-Fi connection. But if you're connected, additional features are available with the Nest apps:

  • Change your current target temperature
  • Make manual adjustments to your schedule
  • Put the Nest Thermostat into Away mode
  • Update device settings
  • See current local weather conditions
  • Get automatic software updates
  • Receive a monthly Energy Report
There are other features that require Wi-Fi too. Since the Nest Thermostat gets weather information over Wi-Fi, weather-aware features (such as Auxiliary heat lockout) are only available when the Nest Thermostat is connected. And the Nest Thermostat updates the date, time and time zone over Wi-Fi, so you might need to enter the date and time manually if the Nest Thermostat isn't connected.

What Do You Need?

You will need a Nest stand if you have a wireless thermostat or no thermostat. Your Wi-Fi, heating, hot water and electrics will need to be in full working order. If you are unsure about compatibility with your heating system, we recommend you speak to a professional installer before purchase.

The Nest Learning Thermostat is compatible with almost all central heating systems, including:

  • Combi and condensing boilers
  • System and heat-only boilers
  • Hydronic underfloor systems
  • Air source and ground source heat pumps (heating only)
  • Zoned systems (one Nest Thermostat per zone)
  • Switched live systems
  • Low-voltage (dry contact) systems
The Nest App is compatible with iOS devices running iOS 6.0 or later and most Android devices with Android 2.2 or later.
